At Kellington we believe that the music curriculum should be delivered in a way that promotes:

  • Creativity and imagination and gives children the ability to express themselves through music;
  • Working as part of a team to appraise and evaluate composition and performance; share encouragements, developing speaking and listening skills and nurturing an enjoyment of different genres of music;
  • Linking knowledge across the curriculum;
  • Learning from the cultural world of sound around us - understanding how music is created and performed in different countries and time periods.
  • Kellington follows the NC 2014 and EYFS 2014 as a basis for our music teaching and learning. The ‘Music Express’ scheme of work provides our music lessons from Foundation Stage to Year 6. This forms the medium term planning as to what is taught within the music teaching units. In addition, music forms part of the EYFS area of learning: Expressive Arts and Design. In addition to direct teaching children access music as part of their continuous provision.
