Sapphires' Class

Autumn B 2017/18                             SAPPHIRE CLASS Year 5/6

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a very enjoyable holiday and the children are excited for the run up to Christmas! We are looking forward to the exciting opportunities planned for this half term.

Things to remember:

  • School times – 8.45am – 3.15pm.
  • Uniform – please make sure ALL items of clothing are named, including coats and hats.
  • PE– Monday and Wednesday. Outdoor trainers will be needed on these days. It is extremely important that your child is equipped for these sessions. It is advisable that your child brings their PE kit in on a Monday and leaves it in school until Friday. You will have been contacted if your child is continuing with swimming (Tuesdays) this term.
  • Homework will be given out on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday- please support your child with this where possible.
  • Weekly spellings will be given out on a Monday and must be learnt ready for a spelling test on the Friday. These spellings will be a mixture of curriculum spellings, spelling patterns and topic related spellings.
  • Daily reading– your child will be given the chance to choose their own reading book in school and it will be their responsibility to change the book when they have finished it. Please support your child in regular reading.
  • SMIRF targets- Your child will have two instant recall target facts (SMIRFs) for maths and these are found at the back of their reading record. Please support your child to practise these at home ready to be tested fortnightly in school. If you have any questions regarding the SMIRF targets, please do not hesitate to ask.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for your support.
