Diamonds' Class

Autumn A 2017/18 - DIAMONDS CLASS Year 1/2 - 5th Sep 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back – I hope you have had a relaxing summer and are ready for the half term ahead of us. Mrs Calam and I are very excited to be joining your children in Diamonds Class this year.

Homework will be sent home at the end of this week, however spellings will begin the week commencing Monday 11th September.

Things to remember:

  • School times – 8.45am – 3.15pm. Classroom doors are open from 8:35.
  • Uniform – please make sure ALL items of clothing are named, including coats and hats.
  • PE– Wednesday and Thursday. Every Wednesday afternoon your child will be taking part in a yoga sessions, Thursday sessions will be gymnastics. It is important that your child has their PE kit for these sessions.
  • Homework will be given out on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday- please support your child with this where possible.
  • Weekly spellings will be given out on a Monday to be practised at home ready for a test on Friday.
  • Your child will have two instant recall target facts (SMIRFs) for maths and these are found at the back of their reading record. Please support your child to practise these at home ready to be tested at least fortnightly in school. If you have any questions regarding the SMIRF targets, please do not hesitate to ask.
  • Daily reading – your child will bring home a reading book each day, please sign in your child’s reading record and indicate pages read.  We are also completing a reading challenge this year – each time your child reads at home they will get a point. When your child reaches 21 points they will receive a special prize!

This year afternoons will be a little different for the Reception/Year1/Year2 children. All children will be working together in different groupings and will be team taught by the adults involved. This allows the children to access different types of provision and teaching and we are very excited about this!
